The selection includes washers for fixing leaky outdoor faucets, but it lacks temperature-resistant washers for outdoor irrigation systems and other big jobs.

8. Garden Hose Heavy Duty Rubber Washer 10 Pack
Sometimes you know exactly what you want. If you’ve got leaky hoses, either outdoors or connected to indoor appliances, you need a set of hose washers. And oh what washers these are!
These washers are built from a space-age silicone rubber that won’t freeze in the winter and is rated to work up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The manufacturer is so sure these washers will last that they come with a lifetime guarantee.

7. Tradespro 836355 Rubber Sealing Washer Assortment, 141 Pieces
This 141-piece collection of rubber washers includes all the sizes you’re likely to need for indoor and outdoor repair jobs and other projects. Some of the washers are color-coded to help you distinguish them from other washers.
Best of all, this kit comes in a plastic box with different bins so you can keep the different sizes separate – and a printed guide in the top tells exactly which washers are in which bin. That’s a real time-saver when you’re looking for a specific washer. The box can be mounted on the wall for added convenience.
6. Danco 80787 Hose Washers, 10-Pack
This 10-pack of hose washers is intended for repairing leaky garden hoses and the hoses that provide water to indoor appliances. These are everyday pink rubber washers, not the space-age silicone washers described above. The 10-pack costs less than a quarter of the price of the silicone washers.

5. Cal-Hawk AZGA125 Rubber Grommet Assortment Set Electrical Gaskets, 125 Pieces
This collection is all grommets, not washers. Grommets are essentially soft liners, typically made of rubber, that serve as little tunnels for wires or pipes that are threaded through holes in metal, wood, or masonry.
This 125-piece collection includes an 18-compartment plastic box to keep grommets of different sizes sorted so you can find the one you need quickly and conveniently.
4. 180-Piece Rubber Grommet Shop Assortment

3. Performance Tool W5214 Rubber Grommet Assortment, 125 Pieces
Here is the third assortment of rubber grommets, this one containing 125. These grommets cost nine cents each, almost twice as much as the 180-piece collection just described.

2. Gilmour Rubber Hose Washers, 10 Washers Per Package
Here’s a 10-pack of ordinary rubber hose washers – just the thing if you’ve got several hoses to mend. Considering the low price – you might as well buy 10 if you need only one washer. Toss the rest in your toolbox. It’s a small price to pay just in case you get another leak, or you find one of your hoses works better with two washers in the fitting.

1. Garden Hose Heavy Duty Rubber Washer 12-pack
This collection of heavy-duty washers is made by Backyard Dudes, the same company that makes the 99-cents-each silicone washers that are guaranteed to work up to 400 degrees. The washers in this kit cost a third as much and are guaranteed up to 250 degrees. They’re not made of silicone but aerospace-grade rubber.
MAKING A CHOICE
Taking rubber washers for granted most of the time is easy. They’re durable, reliable, and inexpensive. It’s only when something goes wrong, or we undertake a new project that we reach for washers or think about them at all.
That’s when fate intervenes. I don’t know about you, but no matter how many washers I have, I never have the size I need. I leave the water shut off as I hurry to the hardware store and buy a big pack of assorted washers just to ensure that I get the one I need. The rest get tossed into the toolbox with the other unneeded washers I’ve accumulated over the years. I know that the next time I undertake a project, the washer I need will be the only one I don’t have, and it will mean another trip to the hardware store.

Will the washer packs reviewed here save you from a similar fate? They could.
If your projects and repair jobs focus on the same kinds of fittings – if you work with a lot of hoses, say, or indoor faucets – then a pack of specialized washers could be just the ticket.
But if you’re like me, and you never know what kind of project you’ll work on next, you’ll be tempted to get a big assortment of washers. That way you’ll be prepared for any job. It makes perfect sense.
But you’ll also wind up paying for a lot of washers that you’ll never use.
It was not a lot of money and compared to the inconvenience of a trip to the hardware store while your faucet continues to leak or gush, maybe it’s worth it.
Only you can know for sure.
